AHA!

Sup

Got another xbox. Strange for me to own 2 of the game system I hate most. I modded this new one today, and its going to be an emulation only system. I'm loading it up now. It will reside in the bedroom along with a wireless controller.

Oh hell. People basically gushing over apple's new products. Why? Because they're white? I can't think of any other reason, because there's been more capable, less expensive, comprable products out for years. *sigh* Gotta love attack of the show's parody product, the ivideo shuffle -  "vision optional" HAHAHAH!

I finally got around to insuring everything in my project studio. Most people don't know that your homeowners/renters insurance cannot cover instruments and equipment. You gotta have musician's insurance. Finally am getting it, and I feel really relieved. Coverage even covers gigging.

Speaking of my studio, I'm moving into another upgrade phase. I'm fixing to offload a bunch of equipment in the coming months, and much of it has been called already. New converters, word clock, and effects are coming up. I'm going to be broke beyond broke. I know for sure that I'm ditching my Echo Layla 24 (kinda outgrew it), some of my outboard compressors (better ones coming), and probably this laptop (mustin called it!). I'm really looking forward to it, but I need to be saving my pennies.

I'm trying to get packed up. I'm leaving for Sean "Ailsean" Stone's wedding friday. Its gonna rock.
I promise not to drink too much.

Wow, Ailsean's finally getting married! I am filled with additional good cheer tonight!

I wholeheartedly agree about Apple having a real "Style over substance" approach to computing! I sometimes fear all that extra money you spend on an Apple product goes to expensive designer turtlenecks for their marketing division reps.

Quick questions-
I might have money in the coming months to spend on a tube preamp or a pair of monitor speakers- around $400 per. Should I spend now or save up for a few years to get the good stuff?

If you were looking to spend $400, I"d get a decent preamp, but I wouldn't bother getting speakers at $400 a pair. I'd say you'd need to shoot for $400 a speaker, again IMO

Thanks for the advice.

This matches up with my gut instinct - I'd feel I'd need to spend around $1k for a good monitor pair.

I'm still nervous around spending just $400 for a preamp, although I've heard you can save money by swapping in higher quality tubes. Thoughts on that?

First off, send my best to Sean! Glad to see everything is going well. :) I hope everything is awesome for him!

Second, let me know when I need to start working again! I'm going crazy with boredom down here, I just upgraded to a 12x18 Wacom with 5,000 shading stylus.. rollin' with the big dogs. :D

I wanna tear up some more CD covers/etc! Give me some info!

Take care!

dear fancy tablet boy,

I got a LOT of stuff coming up, give me some time (when I get back from sean's wedding) and I'll get things to you. We're talking multiple projects - are you cool w/ that?

A. Holy crap I didn't know renters insurance did not cover instruments/equipment. I'll have to let Jake know.

B. Tell me how the wedding is. We're bent out of shape that he invited us, but we can't go because of Jake's new job and moving...etc... I feel stupid because we fully intend to invite him to ours. ;p

A. renters insurance (I checked with Allstate, State Farm, and others) can't cover any musical equipment you use to make money with. Neither can homeowners. They have a type of property insurance that can cover a 'collection' of instruments, but you can't be using them to make money with. I was even told that if the potential to make money with them is present, they won't cover it.

B. I'll give you a full report. *salutes*

Gotta be something to what Apple's selling, 'cause people are buying! My reason: everything they do works seamlessly with everything else. Since I'm an Apple user, that works great for me. It just all talks and does its thing & WORKS. Now, if I were a Windows user, I would probably not be all over the iPods. I'd probably go with something cheaper that takes less work to to make work. ^_^

Give Sean & Kris our best; we told Joe to do so too. We are just not in any financial position to go, and I'm upset by it, but it is what it is. *sigh*
